T______T that they can make changes in the future for the better.
- and caleb worrying that essek aging much slower will make him less interested in staying through caleb's old age. but honestly it's always sounded like caleb being an unreliable narrator. because essek is VERY interested in staying, and he loves caleb very very much, and that is extremely evident in later canon. <33 essek would absolutely want to stay and he is SO sappy about caleb later, it's very sweet. lol they're practically married and share a house in rexxentrum and have a couple portrait hanging up and have almost always shared a room in the tower and call each other 'partners'. <3333 and also maybe secretly got married. maybe??? (there are vague hints,) (a little tough to do in the dwendalian empire, but def perhaps outside of it??) (and also they fuck everywhere in 'every room' of their house and also all over the tower including in the 'antigravity well' between floors lmfdkslgjklj)

- and there's something that makes me cry, about caleb putting in an effort to reach out to his friends, rather than retract from them. opening up his tower for them to stay in for monthly get-togethers, wanting to catch up with them. ;__; (and how much easier it is with being able to teleport them all lol)
